It has been widely reported that the ROKG will send emergency aid to the North in a response to the floods that have devastated the North. Although one always has to be suspicious about ‘disasters’ in the North, there are very reliable reports of the situation. In fact, coming at this point in time, it could prove to have a devastating effect on food distribution into the new year.
South Korean Unification Minister Lee Jae-joung is set to announce details of the ROKG aid package today. South Korean civic society is also doing its bit, with several organizations beginning campaigns.
An analyst at Junotane noted that as the extent of the flooding becomes clearer, it is likely that there will be strong support from the ROK voting public for a comprehensive economic package come Leaders Summit time.

There will certainly be a comprehensive economic package – there’s been one since KDJ gave the North $500 million gift for the last summit!!!

The situation in North Korea has become more dire than many initially contemplated. The funds committed to date will not suffice. Young people and the elderly are suffering!
Unfortunately the ROKG package will be woefully inadequate and, as is ofetn the case, will not make it to the intended recipients.
