Flood aid pours in…

August 20th, 2007 · No Comments

Underneath a heading that is worthy of the Korea Times, I actually have a point to make… The relief effort for victims of the August floods in North Korea is rapidly advancing. Here are a few highlights of countries/agencies that have made contributions:

  • South Korea has provided 7.5 million in ramyun, water, tents, blankets, etc;
  • Australia has provided $2 million (in addition to $4 million in humanitarian assistance provided over the last year);
  • The US has offered $100,000 to buy aid materials;
  • World Vision will give $200,000 in medicine, flour, etc;
  • Singapore will give $50,000 + $19,000 from the Singapore Red Cross;
  • International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has launched a campaign to raise $5.5 million;

The UN reports that in total 12 countries have offered aid, others include Japan, China, Russia, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Germany, France and Finland, as well as the European Commission.

For a full list of who is helping and who is doing what, see the ReliefWeb situation page.
