Taking Pyongyang off the terrorism list or adding Japan to the pissed-off list?

September 3rd, 2007 · 6 Comments

It has been reported widely in the press and in several blogs, that after weekend talks in Geneva, North Korea stated publicly that the United States has agreed to remove it from the list of state sponsors of terrorism and to lift sanctions applied under the Trading with the Enemy Act, which according to Reuters, was all but confirmed by US negotiators. In return, North Korea will account for its nuclear programs by the end of the year.

It will be interesting to see how Japan reacts to this… Has anyone told the US negotiators that there is still an unresolved kidnapping issue that many in Japan want resolved??? Are US negotiators trying to delete the ‘terrorism list’ and start a new ‘pissed off list’ of former allies snubbed for political expediency???

North Korea off the Terrorist List? Waiting for U.S. Confirmation…

North Korea is making a significant claim:
North Korea’s foreign ministry said Monday that the United States has decided to remove the communist state from the US list of states sponsoring terrorism.

The Bush Administration is just desperate for a foreign policy victory (even though its a charade) and probably figure they can sell out Japan’s interests in regards to the kidnapping issue without any consequences.

It seems to be a North korean strategy to use diplomatic ‘discussions’ in public in order to push the issue – and to push a wedge between Japan and the US.

But I would assume that the US is aware of the different tactics North Korea uses. Perhaps it is in the US interests to expediently resolve the nuclear issue, despite a threat to Japanese interests?

You are looking at it wrong way round. It is Japan that is evil bastard and wrecking good chance of detente. Japans not wanted to pay money to North Korea because it is not want for North Korea to give up weapons. Japan wants to build more weapons.

Why is every country except Japan able to move forward. It cannot help the situation. Japan must get in line with world opinion.
