Asia Times online has an interesting article regarding the problems that North Korean defectors have adapting to life in South Korea. The article by, Sunny Lee, is based on a telephone interview with Jeon Woo-Taek, a psychiatrist at Yonsei University Medical School. Lee writes that Jeon has been responsible for a study of North Korean defectors’ mental health which now spans more than 15 years. The article gives a taste of what is a very significant issue in the minds of long-term planning for Korean unification. Indeed, it is an issue that remains a problem for Germany, so many years after unification. Give it a read!
