Roh Moo Hyun this week confirmed his belief in the stability of North Korea, stating that “it is very unlikely that North Korea will collapse”.
I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t bet money on it. You just never know…
The aim of Roh’s speech was to build up support for the Sunshine Policy and its various successors. Unification under such scenarios are all about avoiding the collapse of North Korea - even to the point of hiding the truth to yourself. In reality it’s less about unification and more about maintaining your own standard of living, sheltered from the humanitarian abuses that are occurring across the border…
Well wake up! Even the best efforts to support North Korea could fail. A North Korean collapse has been predicted for the last ten years…. one day this may come true.

It’s sad that the “best efforts” of North Korea amount to what are essentially slave laborers in Kaesong. Their worst efforts, on the other hand, would be intimidation through nuclear weaponry. A sad and doomed country.

North Korea would easily disappear if people were today willing to sacrifice their own material position for those without freedom as previous generations did. Freedom is not free!

Really I think you are being hard on Roh. He is defending a platform that the vast majority of Koreans believe in - even the conservative plans mirror those of Roh, with a bit of a twist.
